Ebony Magazine presents The 2006 CIAA Fashion Show The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s (CIAA) 61st annual basketball tournament has concluded its first of a three-year run in Charlotte, N.C (aka “Queen City”) with continued success from EBONY. In its third year participating in the conference, The CIAA Fashion Show featuring the Ebony Fashion Fair models, helped to wrap-up this stellar week-long event, with a sold-out show at the Charlotte Convention Center. Each year, the CIAA Fashion Show has been the tournament’s answer for a quick retreat from the basketball court to the runway for CIAA fashion aficionados. But, not only did CIAA alumni, fans and friends fill the seats, some of the most highly-touted women in black business, politics and higher education were in attendance, including the five woman presidents and chancellors of CIAA institutions. This show put a cap on the week for fans that traveled to Charlotte from all distances to greet old friends and meet new ones. Charlotte’s “Uptown” feel was the perfect atmosphere to host this event. “The energy, fashion and networking potential for this show are endless,” says Commissioner Leon G. Kerry. “With the move to Charlotte, we’ve expanded our (fashion show) audience, and increased attendance by 40%. Charlotte has great potential for the CIAA and the fashion show.”
The fashions seen this year are some of the best garments that have been featured in the world’s largest traveling fashion show, The Ebony Fashion Fair. The 2007 CIAA Tournament will be held on February 25-Mar. 3. Go to www.CIAATournament.org or the February 2006 issue of Ebony magazine (pages 59-72) for more information on the CIAA. Shera L. White, CIAA Director of Public Relations contributed to this article.
